Spring Snow Goose Season

Snow goose hunting in Southeast Nebraska can be one of the most memorable hunting trips a waterfowler could ever encounter.  Heartland Hunts is located in a hot spot for the spring migration.  The majority of the Central flyway snowgoose population travels through or stage on the Squaw Creek Refuge in Northwest Missouri and the Rainwater Basins in South Central Nebraska during the spring migration.   Heartland Hunts is located directly between these two areas.  The snow geese will utilize the harvested grain and winter wheat fields, as well as, the numerous roost ponds and lakes in Southeast Nebraska.

What makes the snow goose hunting in Nebraska so terrific and talked about is the incredible number of birds that funnel through this area and the fact that we have staging birds and migrating birds feeding,  roosting and resting in our back yards.  This allows us to see birds all day long.  From the beginning to the end of season we see millions of snowgeese and many other species of waterfowl.  Seeing the Canadas, Whitefronts, Mallards and Pintails land in the decoys adds to the enjoyment of the hunting experience and makes for some great photos.

Imagine spending 12 hours in a layout blind with cold winds and rain or drizzle.  It would feel like the crisper drawer in the refrigerator--You  can’t get enough clothes on to keep warm.  Not for me.  Our fully guided spring Snow goose hunts are  from heated, comfortable and spacious pits in grain fields. Designed with the hunters comfort in mind,  our pits are 5’ wide, 5’deep and 25’ long.  There is plenty of room for 6 hunters and the guide.   Each pit has a cook stoves for making coffee and great lunches.  We believe in hunting snowgeese that are decoying to the spread-no sneaking, jumping, or pass shooting, just wings cupped –in your face hunting in comfort.
